Furnace Won’t Turn On
No power, a thermostat problem, or a worn part that lights the gas can keep a furnace from starting. Here’s what to check first, and when to call.
Calls answered 24/7: (479) 616-1364. No heat? Call any time and tell us what the system is doing.
Furnace still won’t come on? Call us, and a technician will track down the problem. We handle heating systems repair across the River Valley.

What you can check
- Set the thermostat to Heat and turn it up 5 degrees above the room temperature.
- Check the furnace power switch, the breaker, and, if you have one, the float switch (a safety switch that shuts the system off when the drain backs up).
- Put fresh batteries in the thermostat if it uses them.
- If the furnace tries to start and then shuts itself down, leave it off and call.
- If you smell gas, get everyone out of the house and call the gas company from outside.
When to call
Call if the checks above don’t bring the heat back, a breaker trips again, you smell gas or burning, or the furnace clicks but never lights. We fix furnaces in Fort Smith, Van Buren, Greenwood, and Alma.
Prefer to book online? Use Book Online and note what you checked and what you heard.
Past the thermostat, power switch, and breaker, leave the inside of the furnace to a trained technician.

Why a furnace won’t start
If the thermostat screen is blank, the problem may be dead batteries or no power to the system. If the thermostat is on but the furnace stays quiet, a switch, breaker, or fuse may be the cause. If you hear a click or a small fan start but the burners never light, a worn ignitor or a safety switch is a common reason. Our technician checks the power and safety switches first, then tests parts before replacing anything.
We handle heating systems repair across the River Valley, including furnace repair in Fort Smith and furnace repair in Van Buren. Our Fort Smith office and Van Buren office take calls any time. If your furnace is older and the repairs keep adding up, ask us whether to repair or replace it.
While you wait for the technician
Close doors to rooms you aren’t using to hold in heat. If you use a space heater, follow its safety instructions and keep it away from anything that can burn. Never use a gas oven or grill to heat the house.
Our technicians handle no-heat calls across Fort Smith, Van Buren, Greenwood, and Alma, and you hear what they found before any work starts.
If you smell gas or a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, get everyone outside and call 911 or the gas company. Otherwise, call any time, day or night, or book online with a note about what you’ve checked.
