Riverside Heating Air Plumbing installs and replaces central air conditioning and heat pumps in Van Buren from our office on South 4th Street. Every replacement starts with a look at the home and the existing equipment, so the new system is sized for the house instead of copied from the label on the old unit.

How we plan a Van Buren AC replacement

No two houses are set up the same way. In an older home, the ductwork may run through a crawlspace or a tight attic, and the vents that pull air back to the system may have been sized for a smaller unit. In a newer home, the indoor unit is often in the attic with longer duct runs. Both affect what size and type of system will keep your house comfortable.

The estimate visit looks at the square footage and layout, insulation and windows, the size and condition of the ductwork, the electrical service to the outdoor unit, and where the indoor unit sits. The new system is sized to how much cooling the house actually needs, not to the old unit. An AC that’s too big cools in short bursts and leaves humidity behind, and one that’s too small runs all afternoon in July and never catches up.

What happens on install day

  • Protect floors and the work area, then shut down and disconnect the old system.
  • Set the new outdoor unit on a level pad and install a matching indoor unit so the system works as designed.
  • Check the copper lines that run between the indoor and outdoor units. Reuse them only when the size and condition are right, and replace them when they are not.
  • Connect power, including the shutoff box next to the outdoor unit, and seal the duct connections at the indoor unit.
  • Test the new lines for leaks, pump out air and moisture, add the right amount of refrigerant (the fluid that carries heat out of your home), and start the system up the way the maker says, checking that air flows well, the air coming out is properly cooled, and the thermostat controls the system.

Before the crew leaves, you get a walkthrough of the thermostat and filter location, plus maintenance recommendations for the new equipment. Permit and inspection rules depend on your city or county, so ask the office how they apply to your replacement before the install date.

New systems our crew installed in Van Buren

  • Van Buren: Luis, Seth, and Johan installed a new heat pump system, with a new outdoor unit and air handler (the indoor unit with the fan), and hauled away the old one.
  • Van Buren: Luis, Seth, and Johan put in a new 3-ton system (a ton is a measure of cooling power, not weight). The plan also called for extending the outdoor drain pipe so it stays out of the dirt, insulating a section of attic duct, and replacing the plywood under the furnace where they could reach it.

Repair or replace?

Replacement usually comes up after a failed compressor (the pump in the outdoor unit that keeps the cooling fluid moving), a leaking coil on an older system, or equipment that can no longer keep the house cool on the hottest afternoons. If you’re not sure which way to go, a diagnostic visit can confirm what failed and what a repair would involve. Our technician can help you decide whether to repair or replace your system, and whether a heat pump or furnace fits your home. For a system that is still worth fixing, see AC repair in Van Buren.
