What a Greenwood replacement can look like

Replacement work in Greenwood doesn’t always look the same. Sometimes it’s a new gas furnace and air conditioner together because both are near the end of their life. Sometimes it’s a complete heat pump system, like one our crew put in for a manufactured home, which needs equipment and duct connections made for that type of house. For rooms without ductwork, a ductless system (slim indoor units mounted on the wall) can be the right fit, like the one in the photos below. The plan depends on what’s in the house now and what you need the next system to do.

Some homes have the indoor unit in the attic or a closet, and others have ducts running through a crawlspace. Either way, the crew checks duct size and condition before recommending a system size, since a new system can only move as much air as the ducts allow.

Install day, step by step

  1. The old equipment is shut down and disconnected.
  2. The new outdoor unit goes on a level pad with proper clearance for airflow and service access.
  3. The indoor unit or furnace is installed as a matched set with the outdoor unit.
  4. The copper lines between the indoor and outdoor units are reused only when the size and condition are right. Otherwise we run new ones.
  5. Holes through walls, drain lines, and duct connections are sealed.
  6. The new lines are tested for leaks, air and moisture are pumped out, the right amount of refrigerant (the fluid that carries heat out of your home) goes in, and the system is started up. Then it is checked to make sure air flows well, the air coming out is properly cooled, and the thermostat controls the system.

Before the crew leaves, they show you the thermostat and where the filter goes. Permit and inspection rules vary from place to place, so ask the office how they apply to your address before the install date.

Deciding between repair and replacement

A failed compressor (the pump in the outdoor unit that keeps the cooling fluid moving), a leaking indoor coil, or a system that runs all afternoon without reaching the temperature you set are the usual reasons a Greenwood homeowner starts asking about replacement. A diagnostic visit can confirm what failed before you decide. We can help you decide whether to repair or replace your system, and whether a heat pump or furnace fits your home better. If the system is still worth fixing, see AC repair in Greenwood, and for winter heating problems see furnace repair in Greenwood.
