AC Unit Stopped Working in Van Buren, AR (New Capacitor and Outdoor Unit Deep Cleaned)

When one of several systems at a property stops working, a full system check keeps you from guessing. In mid-September, a Van Buren Comfort Club (our maintenance plan) member called because one AC unit was not working. Our technician found electrical and outdoor coil problems worth fixing together.

What Our Technician Found

The run capacitor (the part that gives the motor its starting kick) for the compressor (the pump inside the outdoor unit) needed to be replaced. Photos of the outdoor electrical panel also showed a dusty, heat marked area around the contactor (the switch that turns the outdoor unit on and off), which often goes along with an outdoor unit that struggles to start. The condenser (the outdoor unit) also needed a deep cleaning so it could get rid of heat properly again.

What Homeowners Can Learn From This Job

  • Electrical and airflow problems often show up together. A weak capacitor plus a dirty coil is a common pair.
  • Heat marks near a contactor are a warning. If it was not replaced, it deserves a close look on the next visit.
  • Fixing both at once makes sense. Starting parts and a clean coil work together to keep the outdoor unit running.
