AC Tune-Up in Barling, AR (Bent Outdoor Coil Fins Found)

Barling sits just east of Fort Smith, and our River Valley team serves homeowners there. In mid-September, a Barling homeowner used our Cool Deal tune-up special for a full system check and a look at the overall condition.

What Our Technician Found

The tune-up covered an inspection, coil and electrical checks, and an airflow check. While looking over the condenser (the outdoor unit), our technician found coil fins that were bent and crushed in places. Damaged fins block air from passing through the outdoor coil. That traps heat and makes the compressor (the pump inside the outdoor unit) work harder.

The homeowner had recently had a capacitor (the part that gives the motor its starting kick) replaced by another company and mainly wanted an honest check of the system. This visit focused on the tune-up checks and showing the homeowner what we found.

What We Completed

  • Completed the AC tune-up inspection.
  • Checked the refrigerant (the fluid that carries heat out of your home), the wiring connections, the coils and the airflow.
  • Found and took photos of bent and crushed fins on the outdoor coil.
  • Went over the condition of the system with the homeowner.

The Result

The homeowner now has a clear picture of the outdoor coil after the tune-up. Fin damage is worth watching and, when it is bad, fixing so the outdoor coil can breathe. Learn more about our AC maintenance.

What Homeowners Can Learn From This Job

  • Fins are fragile. Lawn equipment, hail and things leaning on the unit can flatten them.
  • Blocked fins make the system work harder. Every bit of coil that cannot pass air adds strain on the compressor.
  • A tune-up is also a checkup. Photos help you decide what to fix now and what can wait.
