Rudy sits north of Van Buren in Crawford County, and Comfort Club (our maintenance plan) members there get the same full system check we use in town. In late September, a Comfort Club member had us out for cooling trouble. A family member had suggested a valve that controls the flow of refrigerant (the fluid that carries heat out of your home) might be the problem, so our technician started with a full system check.
What Our Technician Found
The run capacitor (the part that gives the motor its starting kick) in the outdoor unit needed to be replaced, and the system was also low on refrigerant. A weak capacitor strains the compressor (the pump inside the outdoor unit), and low refrigerant cuts how much heat the system can move. Both can show up as weak cooling.

What We Completed
- Did a full system check and safety check.
- Replaced the compressor run capacitor.
- Added refrigerant.
The Result
The outdoor unit has a new capacitor, and the refrigerant was topped up on this visit. If it gets low again, a leak search is the honest next step. Learn more about our AC repair service.
What Homeowners Can Learn From This Job
- Phone troubleshooting has limits. A guess about a bad valve still needs testing at the house.
- More than one thing can be wrong. Fixing only the capacitor or only the refrigerant may leave you less comfortable.
- Refrigerant does not get used up. If you keep needing more, the leak needs to be found.
