The job at a glance

  • Town: Greenwood, AR
  • Service: Heat pump repair
  • Technicians: Alejandro and Logan

What we found

The homeowner called because the heat pump was not cooling. Alejandro and Logan hooked up gauges at the outdoor unit and also checked the indoor unit in the attic.

The refrigerant level was low. Refrigerant (the fluid inside the system) carries heat out of your home in summer. In a heat pump, it also brings heat in during winter. When the level is low, the system runs longer and keeps the house less comfortable in both seasons.

The indoor unit in the attic.

What we did

  • Checked the system with gauges at the outdoor unit and looked over the indoor unit in the attic
  • Added refrigerant to bring the level back up

The result

With the refrigerant back to the right level, the heat pump can move heat the way it was designed to. Refrigerant travels in a sealed loop, so a system should not need regular refills. If this one runs low again, the right next step is to look for a leak rather than just adding more.
